For Alain Laboile, a father of six, photography is not only a way to document life, it’s also a celebration of it.
Laboile’s eye for beautiful compositions, along with his choice to shoot in black and white, give his family photos a timeless feel and make them seem as though they could have come from anyone’s childhood.
Yes, you probably didn’t have a baby deer nibble at your toes when you were growing up. And yes, you may have spent your days on concrete, in a city, but Laboile manages to grasp something universal. Whether it’s childish innocence, new experiences, or the fleeting nature of time, these concepts seem almost palpable when you’re viewing his images.
Interestingly enough, Laboile began as a sculptor, acquiring a camera only when he had to assemble a portfolio of his works. But photography suits him well.
