Like any long-running TV show or movie series, The Simpsons is full of hidden little details that are peppered throughout each episode. It’s as much a reward for the perceptive viewer as it is a chance for the creators of the show to have a bit of fun with their inside gags.
For instance, one thing that has been on my mind since I was a 7-year-old kid watching The Simpsons when my parents weren’t looking, was what flashed across the supermarket cash register when Maggie was scanned during The Simpsons intro. I’d always tried to see what numbers and letters came up, but I was never sure what they were.
It wasn’t until over a decade later that I found out that the number (originally 847.63 dollars) was the monthly amount of money that Americans needed to raise a baby. Of course, that was what researchers said the number was at the time that the show’s first season was released in 1989.

Another thing that I never noticed until I binge-browsed through The Simpsons trivia, Easter eggs, and fan theories one day, was that the creator of the show, Matt Groening, hid his initials on Homer Simpson’s head. The character’s ear looks like the letter ‘G’ while his hair looks like an ‘M.’
Something else that only the most detective minded of you might have noticed is that God in The Simpsons has five fingers on each hand. Meanwhile, all the other characters only have four fingers. It’s small details like this that make us love the show even more (even if we think they should change the format back to what it once was years and years ago).
