These past few months have been stressful for everyone, and women especially have had to take on many roles. As if life weren’t stressful enough, you may have juggled being a wife, mother and even a teacher while trying to balance your own career. Now that summer has arrived, it’s an excellent chance to take back some time for yourself. Here are seven of the best ways women can achieve much needed balance in their lives.
Get a Physical
Before you do anything, it’s important to get a routine physical exam. Ask for a full blood panel that checks your cholesterol, triglycerides, liver and kidney function. If you’re a woman nearing menopause, talk to your doctor about getting your hormone levels checked. She may even suggest a convenient hormone balance supplement to relieve symptoms. The feeling that comes from taking control of your health will automatically make you feel better.
Start Walking
Another way to put composure back into your life is through walking. Walking is great exercise that benefits all fitness levels, whether you’re a beginner or advanced. What’s unique about walking is that it’s incredibly therapeutic. Taking an hour-long walk by yourself is perfect thinking time. It gives you a chance to get your thoughts in order, plan and organize. You’ll return from your walk feeling energized both physically and mentally.
Eat Good Food
Don’t discount the mental calm you get by eating good food. How many times have you said you’d start eating better, only to fall back into the same poor eating habits? Eating junk food can make you feel guilty, depressed and physically ill. Leave your scattered eating routine behind and start eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. You’ll feel more in control and you’ll reap the benefits that come with nutritious eating.
Disconnect Yourself
People are programmed to take advantage of every waking moment, and they often forget the importance of getting enough rest. Many use their down time to surf the internet, watch movies and catch up on email, but this is hardly the kind of relaxation your body needs. These activities keep your brain in high gear, so turn off the electronics. Disconnecting yourself means watching a sunset, enjoying a cool beverage on the porch or maybe just doing nothing!
Make Quiet Time
In order to achieve true harmony, you need to even out busy time with quiet time. Step away from your job, current events and other stressors. Make time to catch up on reading, or look though that pile of magazines you never seem to be able to get to. Quiet time can also come in the form of early morning meditation or taking time to journal. Strive for a little quiet time every day.
Learn To Say “No”
Women are natural caregivers and that means they hate saying no. However, this can leave you feeling like you’re being pulled in all directions at once. As hard as it is, practice saying no and commit to only a few activities per week. This certainly doesn’t mean you have to say no to everything, but be reasonable in regard to how much you can take on.
Simplify Your Life
If you still feel off center no matter what, maybe you’re contending with too much junk at home. If you notice your time is mostly spent cleaning and unsuccessfully trying to organize, consider simplifying your life. Imagine how you’d feel if you donated, or sold, the bulk of the things you don’t use. Although it might seem drastic, minimizing can make you feel much freer. People that own less aren’t so bogged down and can think more clearly.
Know How To React
No matter how much stress you have in your life right now, you can achieve balance if you know how to react to it. By staying healthy, taking time out for yourself and simplifying your life, you’ll be able to find that stability that you really crave.
