For a lot of us, traveling is associated with fun activities, unseen places, good food, and drinks. But what do we think about the actual part of traveling: for example, taking a bus, train, or plane? How happy do we become when we think about that unavoidable part of the trip? A lot of us might refrain from joy when it comes to waking up early and rushing to an airport, standing in long lines for security, and then being squeezed next to other passengers, very often not being able to find a comfortable position. A very similar thing happened to one Reddit user who needed to catch a flight at the last minute. After their trip, the person had to ask people online if what they did during the flight was wrong or if they did the right thing by standing their ground.

No matter how much we’ve missed traveling over the last few years, it’s still painful to think about all those hours spent in a cramped seat on a plane

The author of the post shared that they had to take a flight that was more than 3 hours long. Because it was at the last minute, they didn’t have a chance to book a seat with more room for their legs because of how tall they are. This became somewhat of a problem because a woman sitting in front of them decided to recline her seat. At first, the passenger addressed the woman and asked her politely to raise her seat up a bit so they wouldn’t be pressed. However, the other passenger just said “no” and kept the seat reclined.

Because of this reason, OP decided to go and report this incident to a flight attendant who then approached the woman and after their short talk, she raised her seat up. But this didn’t end just there, as she then turned around and called the passenger “an a**hole,” which made them think that maybe what they did was wrong.

However, the woman refused to return her seat to its original position, so what the author of the story did next was to go and find a flight attendant

This situation which perhaps is also relatable to many others started a heated discussion online. Some people were stating that the author of the story shouldn’t feel bad about asking the woman to raise her seat up because it’s common decency to check if others are okay with you reclining your chair. However, there were users who found the person to be at fault. Despite them approaching the woman gently, their politeness ended when the woman said “no” and they didn’t take this answer. Instead of accepting it, they decided to involve a flight attendant.

Perhaps you wonder if there is a way to finally decide who is right in this situation. According to a magazine called Travel + Leisure, certain etiquette rules and manners also exist in the air. Despite the realization that if the button for reclining your seat exists, you can use it, it’s suggested that it can only be done if it’s really needed. Try to recline in a way that would make you feel comfortable, but not invade too much of another person’s space.

When you’re on a short flight that is taking place during the day, it would be better to stop yourself from adjusting your seat too much, as people who sit next to you might be using the tray to put their laptops or other important things needed for work. By reclining your seat without any warning, you also risk spilling their food or beverage over them. This leads to another very important tip. Try to avoid heated arguments or fights with other passengers while on a plane because you never know where this might lead and what kind of damage it might cause. Other than that – bon voyage!
This story divided users online into two groups: those who believed that OP wasn’t the one to blame and those who thought that the woman had every right to say “no” to them
