Sarah Michelle Gellar is breaking her silence about why she wasn’t photographed with Jennifer Love Hewitt during the red carpet for the premiere of I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025.
Love Hewitt, Gellar, her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. and Ryan Phillipe all starred in the original film back in 1997, but only Love Hewitt and Prinze Jr. are reprising their roles.
During a red carpet event for the film, eagle-eyed netizens noticed that Gellar and Love Hewitt were not photographed together, prompting some to wonder if there was a rift.

The latest perceived slight between the two stars, who are now in their late 40s, happened at the United Theatre on Broadway in Los Angeles.
Love Hewitt, who is reprising her role of Julie James, appeared in photos with her co-star in the reboot, Freddie Prinze Jr., who plays Ray Bronson.

At the same time, Prinze Jr. was also photographed with his wife, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who attended the event with the couple’s children.
But there were no photos taken of Gellar with her former co-star, Love Hewitt.

“I love you, but where’s Jennifer? Everyone was waiting for Helen to meet Julie,” one person said, using the name of the characters from the 1997 film.
Finally, Gellar addressed the questions saying:
“For everyone asking – I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didn’t come to the after party.”
She went on to explain how crazy and fast-moving those kinds of events can be.

“If you have ever been to one of these it’s crazy. I sadly didn’t get pics with most of the cast. But that doesn’t change how amazing I think they all are.”
Some of Gellar’s fans saw no need for the explanation in the first place:
“These people are very disturbing, you can take a picture with whoever you want, queen,” one person noted.

During the premiere, Love Hewitt wore a slinky black sequence column gown and a new shade of red hair.
Some people commented on how the 46-year-old did not look as thin as she did in her 20’s. But the comments were quickly squashed by body positive netizens.

In recent months, Love Hewitt had been making the news for speaking frankly about growing older under the harsh Hollywood spotlight.
In December, during a press tour for a Lifetime film she directed and starred in, called The Holiday Junkie, she spoke to Fox News Digital saying:
“Age is age.”

She continued: “I think women really come into this… acceptance of themselves and comfortability in their 40s that is beautiful.”
She said that it seems like it’s hard for some people to visualize her as anyone but a 20-year-old.

IKWYDLS is being praised for its final plot twist

I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 follows a similar plot to the original film, in which a group of friends run over a pedestrian in an accident, but instead of reporting it, they try to cover it up.
A year later, a stalker sends them messages to taunt them.
Realizing that the stalker is imitating a legendary serial ki**er, they seek help from the two survivors of the Southport massacre of 1997—aka, the I Know What You Did Last Summer OG.
IKWYDLS 2025 came out in theaters on July 18th and has been getting early praise from critics, especially for its final plot twist.
“With its latest installment, I Know What You Did Last Summer officially beat the Scream franchise to a shocking twist,” said Screen Rant’s review.
