Many are fearful of AI one day taking their jobs from them, but have you ever considered the fact that this technology might be able to help you get a job? One person shared on Reddit that they created an AI bot to help them automatically apply for jobs, and they ended up getting 50 interviews! When ChatGPT was released in November, 2022, it took the internet by storm. People were shocked by what this AI tool was capable of, and since then, we’ve seen many similar creations flood the internet. From art generators to movie makers to tools that will tell you what to make for dinner based on what ingredients you have at home, it’s safe to say that AI has carved out a significant spot online.
And if you’re concerned about AI tools putting you out of a job, that’s probably not going to happen any time soon. But you shouldn’t be scared to utilize these tools, because apparently, they might even help you find your next job.
The author of this post noted that the specific AI tool they used to apply for 1,000 jobs no longer works, so there’s no need to try it out for yourself. But that doesn’t mean that other AI tools can’t help you out.
According to Forbes, there are several ways artificial intelligence can help you land a great position. First, they note that it’s great for optimizing your resume. We all struggle to craft a stunning resume that stands out and shows off our accomplishments, so there’s nothing wrong with using AI to help create the perfect document.
In the same vein, AI might be able to take your cover letter to the next level. Of course, you don’t want it to be entirely written by AI, as it should still sound like you. But AI tools can provide you with additional ideas to include, help spice up your vocabulary and ensure that the tone of the piece is professional.
Even scrolling through pages and pages of open positions might be a thing of the past, as AI tools can help you find job openings that you’d be a great candidate for.
And once you’ve landed an interview, you can prepare by having a mock interview via ChatGPT. Ask the tool to give you questions that might come up in your real interview, and if you’re not sure what to say, it can help you craft eloquent responses.
But some companies are trying to keep AI-submitted applications out
However, not everyone is a fan of using AI technology to land a job. Some companies might prefer that you do things the old-fashioned way, especially if they don’t want to be bombarded with thousands of applicants a day.
NBC News recently covered this topic, and they noted that using AI to apply for jobs might be creating issues for the companies receiving all of these applications. In fact, some companies have even put safeguards in place to prevent AI applications from making their way through.
This might include requiring e-confirmation codes to submit applications, in an attempt to keep submissions from bots out. “Others have added prompts asking AI bots to use specific words like ‘banana’ in responses to catch chat-generated application answers,” NBC News reports.
And if companies are overwhelmed with the amount of applications they receive, they’re only going to be more likely to utilize AI tools to help them go through every submission. But a study from the Pew Research Center found that two thirds of Americans admit that they wouldn’t want to apply for a job where they knew the employer was using AI to help inform their hiring decisions.
