What do you think of when you see the words “financial freedom”? A positive cashflow where you’re free from living paycheck to paycheck? Taking unpaid time off from work, knowing you’ve already have your expenses covered? A year’s worth of cash reserves in case you decide to walk away from your job? Maybe it’s something more mundane like going out with friends once a week.

Whatever it is, when you dig deep down and really look at your reasons for wanting financial freedom, you’ll discover it was not about the money. It never is.

Rather, it’s about what having the money represents.

Walk Away From Abusive Relationships

When you have financial freedom, you realize you don’t have to take other people’s bad attitudes anymore, be they familial, intimate, friendly, or work-related.

Let’s say a coworker accuses you of not setting your priorities right and not doing your job, even though you were never asked to do whatever he’s accusing you of failing to do.

With financial freedom, you can just want away from that conversation when he starts to get verbally abusive. Who cares what he thinks? Who cares what your manager thinks? The thing is having a cash reserve builds up your self-esteem and self-image.

Whereas before you might have sat there and taken his abuse, you now have power.  You realize you don’t have to take people’s crap anymore. You have the power to walk away at any given moment.

It’s Really About Doing What Matters Most to You

You might have been putting of writing that book for the past decade because you never seem to have the time. Or maybe you just fell into your current job from poor career advice. Now, you want the time to think things through and figure out what really makes you tick and gives you fulfillment.

With financial freedom, you now have the time to figure out these things. You can really start to chase after what’s most important to you.

You get to live just once. So how awesome would it be to chase after your dreams instead of working for someone else, making his dreams come true?

Financial Freedom Is Really About Having Options

In the end, that’s what having financial freedom gives you. It gives you the power of choice. You have an abundance of options. That’s what real power is all about. It’s not about controlling other people. It’s about controlling the direction your life takes, giving you the best possible rewards.

With each plunge towards your personal goals, your confidence, self-esteem, and self-image grow a little each time. You learn to say “no” to the things that don’t matter. You learn to guard your time from other people who constantly take from you.

More importantly, you learn how to really decide, how to set , and how to achieve goals.

In the end, having financial freedom really affords you the option to walk away from abusive relationships. You get to do what is really most important to you, for you have an abundance of options.

Most people have to choose from several bad options. Having financial freedom enables you to choose from several good ones.
