We, humans, seem to have an awfully endless fascination with chubby animals, regardless of whether we’re talking about pets such as dogs and cats, or would that be some wild animals. But in this particular case, the celebration of chonkiness is very well earned as these brown bears of Katmai National Park put their best effort into this essential part of their lives. As for most animals who hibernate during the wintertime, it’s necessary for them to get that every bit of fat possible, so they don’t starve themselves out during their long winter nap. Katmai’s workers had this brilliant idea of how to both celebrate it and educate the masses. Scroll down to find out all about it!

Katmai National Park in Alaska came up with this beautiful idea to celebrate brown bears success in preparing for winter
A habitat, to quite a strong handful of brown bears, Katmai National Park thought of a simple yet beautiful way to get people invested in the lives of its habitants by arranging the Fattest Bear Competition on their Facebook page, where they post comparison pictures of the bears before and after bulking up. They encourage people to vote and thus select the winner. This year Holly turned out to be the queen of heart and it was joyfully announced that”She is fat. She is fabulous. She is 435 Holly. And you voted her the 2019 Fat Bear Week Champion. All hail Holly whose healthy heft will help her hibernate until the spring. Long live the Queen of Corpulence!”

Katmai Park is known to some people not only for their awesome Fattest Bear contest but for having this amazing bear cam where you can spectate the life of brown bears whenever you want. The cameras are located by the Brooks Falls Wildlife Viewing Platform at Brooks Camp. The best time to stalk the bears is during the months of June and July when the salmon are jumping the falls most actively. Sometimes you can see up to 25 bears at the same time!
