There’s a myth running around in certain circles that the minute you start going bald, your life is supposedly over and it’s all downhill from there. Well, the truth is that going bald isn’t the end — it’s just the beginning.

Celebrities who shaved their heads are the perfect example that a bare head doesn’t diminish someone’s beauty. In fact, sometimes it even enhances it. Some would argue that shaving your head is far from the same thing as going bald. Especially if you’re a celebrity because a large chunk of stars tend to drastically change their appearance: they dye their hair, they add extensions, they curl it, etc. Eventually, the only novel thing left to do is to shave it off.

Celebrities tend to draw more attention without any hair on their noggin. Most of all if they’re female. For example, in 2005, Natalie Portman shaved her hair for her role in the movie V for Vendetta: the scene had to be done in one take, so there was a lot of pressure on everyone to do their best.

“With hair, I can camouflage with people [but] as a female with a shaved head, people tend to stare just naturally,” Portman told MovieWeb.

USA Today writes that researchers from the University of Pennsylvania determined that bald men appear more dominant, taller, and stronger.
