While some might scoff at people who pay a lot of attention to celebrities, the fact is, it’s a very human reaction to idolize someone and follow their every move.

According to evolutionary psychologist Daniel Kruger from the University of Michigan, humans, like primate species, keep an eye on ‘the dominant individuals’ in their groups for a couple of important reasons.

“One is just learning what high-status individuals do so you might more effectively become one, and two, it’s basically political. Knowing what is going on with high-status individuals, you’d be better able to navigate the social scene,” explained Kruger.
